Norwegian gas infrastructure operator Gassco exported 36.
8 billion cubic meters of gas between May and August, setting a new high
for summer gas deliveries, World Gas reported on September 24.
Operators noted a slight increase compared to the same period in 2017, a record year
for natural gas exports.
"The basis for these high deliveries is, naturally, the demand for Norwegian gas in Europe and the UK," said
Frode Leversund, CEO of Gassco.
In winter, when demand for heating increases, more natural gas is usually exported, but sales this summer are almost on par with
normal winter levels.
In 2017, Gassco transported 117.
4 billion scm
through a pipeline system from Norway to continental Europe and the United Kingdom.
This is clearly the highest sales volume of Norwegian gas exports in 40 years and is 9 times
the annual hydroelectric power generation in Norway.
