    NextEra Energy announced that it has broken ground on Nebraska's newest renewable energy project, the Sholes Wind Project
    .
    The project will create hundreds of construction jobs and millions of dollars in economic benefits
    for the region.

    The Sholes Wind Energy Center will be equipped with 71 GE wind turbines designed to capture prevailing winds and convert them into clean, renewable electricity
    .
    Together, they have nearly 160 megawatts of power generation
    .

    It is understood that an affiliate of NextEra Energy Resources will establish, own and operate the project
    .
    NextEra Energy will serve
    customers through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

    The President and CEO of NextEra Energy Resources said, "This project represents an investment of more than $200 million
    in Nebraska.
    We are excited to partner with OPPD to bring low-cost, renewable energy to our customers, and the tremendous support we have received from Wayne and Staton County communities, many of whom will benefit
    from the project for years to come.

    "Incorporating the Sholes wind farm into OPPD's generation portfolio will not only help us meet our renewable energy commitments, but will also have a positive economic impact
    on the surrounding area," said President and CEO of Omaha Public Power District (OPPD).
