Nexans has signed a preferred supplier agreement with Empire Offshore Wind to become the preferred supplier
of output cables for the offshore wind project.
Under the agreement, Nexans will eventually provide the latter with the cables needed to connect offshore wind farms to New York State's onshore grid, with a total length of more than 300 kilometers
.
According to the plan, Nexans will deploy two cable systems for the offshore wind farm, one to connect the offshore substation to the Brooklyn substation, the Empire Wind 1 system, and three parallel cables to Long Island, the Empire Wind 2 system
.
Once completed, this will provide renewable energy
to more than 1 million households.
