The United States is expected to account for 80%
of global oil supply growth by 2025.
This growth has driven the development
of new areas of greater water depth in the far sea.
BP, one of the leading oil and gas producers, selected Nexans to supply umbilicals for the second phase development of the Mad Dog offshore field in the Gulf of Mexico
.
Nexans supplied umbilical cables and accessories for the second phase of the Mad Dog project in the Gulf of Mexico
The Mad Dog 2 Project is a deepwater oil and gas development project located in the Green Canyon region of the southern Gulf of Mexico, approximately 320 kilometers
south of New Orleans, Louisiana.
BP discovered the Mad Dog field in 1998 and remains one of
the largest in the region to this day.
Under the existing five-year framework agreement, BP ordered Nexans static and dynamic umbilical cables and accessories
.
The products will be deployed at water depths of approximately 1,280 to 2,160 meters, connecting the field to a floating oil recovery system
.
Nexans' scope of work includes the design
of umbilical cables that integrate three different services: hydraulic, data and fiber.
Winifred Patricia Johansen, Business Development Manager, Nexans' Subsea & Land Systems business unit, said: "We are committed to developing lasting solutions
in a highly competitive environment.
Over the years, we have delivered many projects with BP, including various projects
in the Gulf of Mexico.
This contract confirms BP's trust in Nexans and we look forward to a new successful partnership
for the Mad Dog 2 project.
" ”
Electrical and fiber optic components will be produced
at Nexans' Norwegian plant in Rognan.
Umbilical cables will be developed, manufactured and tested
at a dedicated facility in Helton, Norway.
