Nexans has signed an important agreement with Sigdo Koppers Ingeniería y Construcción SA, a local engineering company in Latin America, to provide cabling solutions for Horizonte wind farms and continue to promote the development of
renewable energy.
Under the agreement, Nexans will supply 840 km of cable to the Horizonte wind farm, mainly including aluminum-core medium-voltage cables, with the first deliveries taking place
in May 2022.
The Horizonte wind farm has an installed capacity of 778 MW and generates 2,400 GWh of electricity per year, equivalent to the electricity
consumption of more than 700,000 households in the country.
It will install 140 wind turbines on 8 hectares, reducing CO2 emissions
by 1.
2 million tons per year.
Miguel Fernandez, Nexans' commercial manager in Chile, said: "We will work with each other to find the best solution for conductor, section and reel design that will help increase efficiency and reduce costs"
.
In addition, Luis Ernesto Silva, Vice President of the Nexans Andean Region, added: "We are proud to be part of the largest wind farm under construction in Latin America, participating in and working with the various participants in this project, reaffirming our commitment to developing renewable energy in Chile and the region, as well as our commitment to supporting the transition to carbon neutrality by 2030, thus ensuring a safer, more sustainable, renewable energy future
.
" ”
The project is part of Nexans' strategy to promote the energy transition, electrify the future through innovative solutions and promote the development of
renewable energy initiatives worldwide.
According to the plan, the wind farm will be connected to the grid in
the fourth quarter of 2023.
