A new standard approved by ASTM International's F17 Committee on Plastic Piping Systems will aid in the design of pipe fittings made from cross-linked polyethylene (CX-PE)
.
The standard will be released soon as F3525
.
F3525 is part of a series of initiatives to develop standards applicable to the specification and construction of CX-PE piping systems, "designed to serve manufacturers of pipe fittings that will be used in large utility, commercial and industrial projects
.
" Kafrit NA Ltd.
said laboratory manager and ASTM member Robert Samplonius
.
“The standard will support the development of improved infrastructure,” Samplonius added.
“CX-PE pipes have clear advantages in delivering hot water, which can help make utility projects more economical and energy efficient
.
”
ASTM said the work is directly related to the ninth goal of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on industry, innovation and infrastructure
.
The subcommittee that developed the standard is developing other proposed CX-PE standards, such as the practice of commissioning established CX-PE piping systems
.
ASTM invites interested parties to participate in the development of these proposed standards
