Neste announced that it has achieved the recycling and upgrading of 400 tons of liquefied waste plastics.
After these post-consumer packaging and mixed waste plastics are processed by chemical recycling, they can be used as high-quality and cheap raw materials for petrochemical refineries to produce new plastic materials
.
According to reports, Neste successfully processed 400 tons of liquefied waste plastics at its refinery in Finland this autumn, equivalent to the waste plastics produced by 20,000 ordinary European citizens after their annual consumption
.
Prior to this project operation, Neste conducted extensive research and laboratory testing, as well as a comprehensive analysis of production materials and processes to ensure the feasibility and safety of processing this new recycled feedstock
.
The project is also supported by Ravago and other plastics value chain partners
.
Neste said that the development of an ecosystem for chemical recycling of waste plastics will help reduce the amount of waste plastics in the environment, and at the same time provide high-value upgraded recycling channels for waste plastics, endow waste plastics with a new life cycle, realize the recycling of plastics, reduce Reliance on petrochemical crude oil for the production of new plastic materials
