French renewable energy company Neoen has announced the commencement of commercial operation
of its 189MW Coleambally solar farm in New South Wales, Australia.
Neoen claims its wholly-owned project is currently producing the highest energy output
from a solar farm in the country's electricity market.
The 550-hectare PV system is connected to TransGrid's high-voltage transmission network and has a 12-year power purchase agreement (PPA)
with utility EnergyAustralia.
Under the agreement, Energy Australia will account for 70% of the solar farm's energy production
.
The rest will be sold directly to the market
.
The project includes 567,800 solar modules that can produce more than 390,000 megawatts of renewable energy per year, enough to power more than 65,000 New South Wales homes
.
Site preparations for the project began in January 2018 and construction and connectivity
were completed between March and September 2018.
Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC), Germany's Landesbank NORD/LB, German development bank KfW Ipex support the project, while Bouygues Construction Australia performs EPC services
.
During construction, the solar project created nearly 400 jobs
in the Riverina area.
