Recently, NEC Australia announced that it has successfully won the bid for the South Australian Police Facial Recognition System Project
.
NEC's facial recognition system will be Australia's latest weapon
in the fight against crime in forensic identification, investigations and police front-line operations.
NEC's facial recognition technology will help South Australian police solve cases faster and arrest criminals
more quickly.
In addition, the technology can help enable criminal investigations
, including the efficient search for missing persons.
South Australian police hope NEC's facial recognition system will help create a safer community environment
.
The system provided by NEC Australia is based on NEC's
internationally renowned facial recognition software NeoFace.
NEC's facial recognition technology algorithm has been rated as having the world's highest authentication accuracy and speed (Note*).
This facial recognition technology can assist police in surveillance, scanning, detection and search for images of criminal suspects, even low-quality photos or video streams, and can be matched
with facial information in the database with high accuracy.
"The advantage of NEC's NeoFace technology is that it can recognize low-quality images and surveillance footage, so it can help law enforcement use evidence that was previously considered of little or no value, further improving identification efficiency
.
" Mike Barber, COO of NEC Australia, said
.
NEC Australia's domestic R&D team in Melbourne worked closely with the South Australian Police to develop an application
that uses NEC's world-leading biometrics technology to meet the business needs of the South Australian Police.
The NEC facial recognition system integrates other biometric technologies and core policing systems to provide the South Australian Police with a powerful investigative tool
.
NEC's fingerprint scanning and facial recognition technology serves customers in more than 70 countries around the world, including law enforcement agencies and large enterprises
.
The successful partnership with the South Australian Police demonstrates NEC Australia's commitment to contributing to the creation of a safer, more reliable and sustainable society through its internationally recognised biometrics in the areas of traditional IT, smart infrastructure, communications and public safety
