Extending support to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for another four years will help developing countries cope with environmental degradation

The funds will be used to protect the marine environment, including plastic waste pollution

Under its seventh round of support, the GEF plans to protect around 600 million hectares of land and marine habitat, 24 times the size of the UK, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1.
