Reuters reported that Nauru is negotiating a connection
with the Australian network through an undersea cable.
The Pacific island nation has now approached the Asian Development Bank to help finance
the project.
ADB is reported to have participated in early discussions with the Nauru government to explore possible options to help finance submarine cables to provide low-cost, high-quality internet services
.
Details of the connection arrangements and funding sources will be determined
in due course.
The new plan will involve laying a 1,250-kilometre cable from Nauru to Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, where it will be interconnected with the 4,700-kilometre Coral Sea cable system, enabling connectivity to the Solomon Islands, Australia and Papua New Guinea
