A few days ago, Singapore media disclosed that a batch of trains sold to Singapore Metro by CRRC Sifang, the largest rail transit equipment manufacturer in the mainland, were recalled to their place of origin Singapore for repair and replacement
due to cracks in the car body.
The manufacturer is also responsible for manufacturing 9 trains on the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail and supplying 93 MTR city line trains, which MTR (00066-HK) said will undergo multiple tests before being put into use
.
It is reported that the Singapore MRT car problem involves a total of 26 trains
.
For the recall of Singapore subway cars, CRRC responded on July 6 that the defect was caused by the quality of raw materials of some batches of aluminum alloy profiles, and emphasized that after systematic analysis, the defect did not pose a safety risk and the vehicle could continue to operate
safely.
CRRC pointed out that in line with the attitude of being responsible for users and products, after consultation with users, CRRC Sifang Co.
, Ltd.
took the initiative to return vehicles with partial defects to the factory for repair
in batches.
The incident aroused public attention in Hong Kong, as the manufacturer was also responsible for manufacturing 9 trains on the Hong Kong section of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed rail and supplying 93 trains on the MTR city line
.
The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Mr Cheung Ping-leung, said the Government was very concerned about the incident and had asked MTR to understand and report to the manufacturer, and asked EMSD to follow up, and EMD had also learned about the relevant progress
from Singapore.
Lee Ka Run, chief manager of MTR Train Engineering, said that the material of CRRC's Singapore and Hong Kong carriages is not the same, the train in question in Singapore is an aluminum alloy structure, and the Hong Kong high-speed rail card is also made of aluminum, but it is different from Singapore's, while the 93 trains of the MTR Downtown Line are made of
stainless steel.
MTR also stressed that the MTR acceptance process is strictly supervised, the MTR has dispatched personnel to the production site to supervise manufacturing, mounting and testing, and the train factory has independent personnel to accept metal materials and body structure
.
MTR Engineering Director Wong Wai Ming also stressed that MTR has not found any problems with the carriages supplied to the MTR by mainland manufacturers, and that the cars in the past have met the standards, and the cars produced in the mainland will be tested for safety in Hong Kong, and the reports will be submitted to the government for review
.
However, the Hong Kong government denied yesterday that it had previously understood that there was a problem with the CRRC car purchased by Singapore, but some media disclosed that in January 2015, someone had sent a complaint email to the Transport and Housing Bureau mentioning the problem of cracks in the train, and the bureau also replied in February last year that it would follow up on the incident, but there was no follow-up
afterwards.
It is reported that the train with problems in Singapore is the first batch of trains manufactured by CRRC for the Singapore MRT subway, which was manufactured by Qingdao Sifang Locomotive, a former subsidiary of China Southern Locomotive and Kawasaki Heavy Industries of Japan
.
In May 2009 and April 2012, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, CRRC Sifang Co.
, Ltd.
and Kawasaki Singapore subsidiaries formed a consortium and twice won orders for 35 metro cars
from the Land Transport Authority of Singapore.
