Mitsubishi Engineering Plastics (MEP) has developed a new medical-grade polyoxymethylene (POM) resin
.
The Iupital MA range meets quality and regulatory requirements for medical applications and is available in a range of standard, high flow, high stiffness and low friction grades
.
MEP says the resin offers greater design flexibility in developing smaller, lighter medical devices and devices
.
Low friction grade MAL20 improves sliding properties
.
In the past, combining POM parts created creaking noises and friction, so designs combine different materials to avoid these issues
.
MAL20 suppresses friction and wear and enables quiet, smooth motion even in combination with ordinary POMs, which greatly improves comfort when used in medical equipment
.
MEP added that it provides a colorant masterbatch for color mixing with the MA series, supporting the visual design of the part as well as the physical properties
.
"These new materials will expand the scope of designs, especially medical devices and instruments, and help improve their functionality," said Katsushige Hayashi, vice president of MEP
.
Iupital MA series materials are suitable for molding inhalers, insulin pens and other medical device parts
.
