• Saudi Arabia and the UAE are leading the supply of hydrogen in the Middle East
• As Saudi Arabia and the UAE announce new hydrogen fuel projects one after another, it is clear that the two countries hope to defeat Europe and become the largest hydrogen fuel producer
• Oman also hopes to become a major hydrogen producer and exporter in the world
Sinochem News, according to the US Oil Price Network, as countries in the Middle East region successively announced ambitious hydrogen energy plans in 2021, some of the world's major energy producing countries seem to be competing for a piece of hydrogen energy pie
The two companies stated that the new hydrogen project "will initially target local supply, with the goal of expanding production capacity and establishing a gigawatt-scale green hydrogen center for GCC, which has the potential to be exported to other markets in the world
In May 2021, Dubai launched the "first industrial-scale" green hydrogen plant in the region
At the COP26 climate summit held in November 2021, the UAE disclosed its goal of occupying 25% of the global low-carbon hydrogen market by 2030 through the “hydrogen leadership roadmap”
But the UAE is not the only Middle Eastern country that hopes to develop a green hydrogen industry ahead of its international competitors
Currently, Saudi Arabia is cooperating with neighboring countries.
Through regional agreements, Oman also hopes to become a major hydrogen producer and exporter in the world
Abullah al Abri, head of the energy renewal department of the Oman Petroleum Development Corporation, said: "Clean hydrogen-including green hydrogen and blue hydrogen-will be approximately 1 GW by 2025, about 10 GW by 2030, and by 2040.
As the green race has intensified, energy-producing countries in the Middle East hope to compete with Europe in hydrogen production
However, not all hydrogen is created equal.
