Middle East & Africa power tenders up 2% in August

According to GlobalData's electricity database, tender activity related to power sector projects in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region grew 2 percent in August, with 83 tenders announced, compared to a quarterly average of 81 over the past 12 months
.
The report notes that growth is mainly driven
by transmission and distribution (T&D).

In terms of national tenders, the Middle East issued 11 tenders, of which Oman alone accounted for 7, accounting for 8.
4% of the MEA regional share; Iraq issued six tenders, while South Africa issued 38 tenders last month, with a share of 45.

In terms of tender technology type, thermopower accounted for the largest proportion, with a total of 19 tenders accounting for 52.
8% of the share, followed by solar energy, reaching 9 projects with a 25% share, and biopower generation, with 4 tenders, accounting for 11.

According to the bidding category, supply and installation accounted for 42 tenders, accounting for 50.

In terms of capacity, the Ministry of Mineral Resources: 2,000 MW in one tender; Sasol (South Africa): 20 MW at a time for a tender;

Burkina Faso: 9 megawatts

According to the Middle East and Africa power sector tenders tracked by GlobalData, transmission and distribution equipment was the most popular segment in August, with a total of 30 tenders, followed by transmission and distribution projects (19) and power generation equipment (17).
