According to Mexico's Platts Energy News on August 23, data from the Secretariat of the Ministry of Energy showed that Mexico's gasoline imports reached 653,000 barrels per day, setting a new record
in July.
Imports in July were 110,420 b/d above year-ago levels, but 21,200 b/d
below the all-time high recorded in December, according to the dataset.
Diesel imports also hit a new record at 316,100 b/d in July, 71,300 b/d higher than a year ago but 15,000 b/d
below the all-time high set in November.
Gonzalo Monroy, director of energy consultancy GMEC, told S&P Global Platts on Tuesday that the sudden increase in imports was also linked
to the entry of new private terminals.
Monroy said: "We saw additional fuel envoys to fill the new storage facility
.
"We are finally starting to see so-called energy security in Mexico," he added
.
