With the development of electric vehicles, the demand for charging stations has increased accordingly
.
The European Green Deal aims to provide 1 million public charging points by 2025
.
By then, 13 million electric vehicles are expected to be driving on European roads, which will require these charging stations to power them
.
Covestro is driving the transition to electric vehicles with innovative material solutions and has been working with the EVBox Group, a leading full-service provider of electric vehicle charging in the Netherlands, for over 10 years
.
By using Makrolon RE, an ISCC PLUS certified mass-balanced polycarbonate (PC) resin, the two companies aim to achieve a more sustainable solution
.
The goal is to set new standards for charging infrastructure: while electric vehicles no longer require fossil fuels to generate electricity, both partners are now looking to conserve resources for charging stations and equip them with more sustainable materials
.
The joint development has only just begun, but the ISCC PLUS-certified Makrolon RE PC has already broken through an important hurdle - it meets the technical requirements of charging station manufacturers
.
Wijnand Diemer, Senior Director of Product Management at EVBox Group, explains: “It is important for us to consider the entire life cycle of a charging station right from the start of its development and design
.
This includes recycled materials as source materials, modules for easy maintenance Design and remanufacturing of components and entire charging stations
.
We are delighted to have Coves as a competent and trusted partner to do this
.
”
The Makrolon RE range of plastics comes from recycled waste and residues
.
Like standard products, they are also recyclable and durable
.
Some products are even carbon neutral throughout, thanks to the introduction of raw materials derived from biological waste and residues of balanced quality and the use of renewable energy in the production process
.
This will significantly reduce its carbon footprint compared to standard types of products
.
Dr.
Niklas Meine, Electrical and Electronics Marketing, Engineering Plastics, Covestro EMEA, added: "In order to meet technical requirements, special material properties are essential
.
These include impact resistance, colour fastness and Surface quality, these are the characteristics that PCs have to meet in very different climatic regions
.
The key factor here is durability
.
Our Makrolon RE range offers outstanding technical performance based on alternative raw materials and, therefore, recharges as early as The production of the station can greatly reduce carbon dioxide emissions
.
