The Malta Telecommunications Authority MCA recently issued an announcement that a 5G spectrum auction
will be held in the second half of this year.
According to the announcement, MCA will provide 6 segments of 2×5MHz (total 2×30MHz) on the 700MHz spectrum, 4 segments of 80MHz in the range of 3.
4GHz-3.
8GHz and 16 segments of 5MHz (400MHz in total), and 6 segments of 200MHz
on the 26GHz spectrum.
Each bidder will be limited to 2 segments of 10MHz on the 700MHz spectrum, 100MHz on the 3.
5GHz spectrum and 400MHz on the 26GHz spectrum, but these caps will be raised
if not all available spectrum is allocated.
Successful bidders under the license will be required to use all spectrum allocated to them within 24 months from the date of authorization and to provide services
nationwide.
Malta currently has three mobile network operators, namely Epic, GO and Melita
