Devamany Krishnasamy, Malaysia's deputy minister of energy, said that new solar power from large-scale power plants is expected to be connected to the grid between 2018 and 2020, generating 1228 megawatts
.
Malaysia will add 1.
2 GW of large-scale solar by 2020
As local newspaper The Star reported, Malaysia has awarded projects to 66 successful bidders
under its auction program launched two years ago.
In December last year, the Malaysian Energy Commission (EC) announced that its latest tender awarded projects
with a total capacity of 563 MW.
Krishnasamy also commented on the Sustainable Energy Development Agency's Net Energy Metering (NEM) program, saying that although the goal is to allocate 100 MW of capacity per year for the period 2016-2020, only 8 MW has been approved
so far.
The low return on investment is the reason for the program's low interest, but the Department of Energy is trying to address that
.
The DOE also plans to complete the proposed 2050 renewable energy transition roadmap
by 2019.
