Recently, affected by the new crown epidemic, Ho Lianwei, president of the Malaysian Plastics Recycling Association (MPRA), accepted an exclusive interview with Nanyang Siang Pau.
It subsided a month ago, and 30% of local plastic recycling companies will face bankruptcy
.
Recently, affected by the new crown epidemic, Ho Lianwei, president of the Malaysian Plastics Recycling Association (MPRA), accepted an exclusive interview with Nanyang Siang Pau.
He Lianwei described that the plastic recycling industry has been almost paralyzed by this sudden epidemic
.
He Lianwei said that when the Spring Festival shutdown, orders had begun to decrease.
Now that the virus has become increasingly serious, the plastic recycling industry has begun to reduce production, and some companies that operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, have reduced their operations to 5 days
.
"We dare not 'share' the industry's outlook for this year, everyone just wants to survive
.
He said that this wave of epidemics affects all walks of life.
"Just as China imports plastic raw materials to China, once its status as a world factory is affected, there may be a shortage of auto parts in minutes, and the entire automobile manufacturing will be paralyzed
.
He described the new crown pneumonia epidemic as having dealt a "death blow" to the plastic recycling industry
.
He Lianwei said that domestic plastic recycling companies supply a large amount of plastic raw materials to China.
Even if orders come in, they will face freight problems in the current situation
.
He said China accounted for the largest export market share, with India as the other export market and Vietnam also starting to import plastic raw materials
.
According to official data, Malaysia exports RM450 million of plastic raw materials a year, he said
.
He said that it would be in vain if China's epidemic-stricken areas were only lifted, but trade did not fully return to normal, and production was suspended without production
.
"Even if the epidemic calms down, the sequelae of business and social psychology are unavoidable problems
.
"
Ho Lian Wei is also the Managing Director of CY Intertrade Sdn Bhd, Klang, a plastic waste collection and recycling business, a renowned manufacturer, exporter, supplier and service provider of quality plastic products
.
The local plastic recycling industry lamented that while the government has vigorously cracked down on foreign waste, it has also caused legal plastic recycling factories to feel contained
.
The plastic recycling industry accepts the fact that the industry cannot escape the "alternative vision" of the public, but it does not agree with the government's mentality of "overturning a boat with a bamboo pole"
.
He Lianwei likened plastic recycling to a pharmacy.
Those with legal licenses are called pharmacies, and those without licenses are illegal drugs
.
He said the authorities were indiscriminate when dealing with foreign waste
.
He believes that government officials are so annoyed by the problem of foreign waste that they have this attitude toward legal plastic recycling factories
.
He pointed out that regular plastic recycling factories import plastic waste (HS 3915 number), and foreign garbage has as many as 17 to 20 kinds of sundries and wastes
.
He said that the 3915 approval is very strict, and plastic recycling is one of the strictly regulated industries that needs to be approved by 12 departments including the city council and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration
.
"For the environmental assessment report alone, we have to wait for 6 months, which means that after investing the capital to rent the factory, install the equipment, etc.
, we will spend 6 months waiting for the approval of the environmental assessment report from the authorities
.
"Currently, 70% of recycled raw materials are imported from abroad, and 30% are sourced locally
.
Plastic recycled products have nothing to do with medical care or food
.
"In our country, industrial plastic waste is processed into plastic pellets, which can be used by local plastic factories or exported to make non-food plastic products such as tables and chairs, barrels, plastic products for industrial and agricultural purposes, auto parts and TV parts, etc.
.
"
When referring to the circular economy, He Lianwei said that many large companies in the world have announced the use of recycled plastics for production
.
He pointed out that the circular economy will help the development of the plastic recycling industry, and the Association hopes that the government will pay attention to the circular economy
.
Ho Lian Wei is also the Managing Director of Klang CY Intertrade Sdn Bhd, the company he founded
.
When He Lianwei was in his 20s, he assisted his family in driving a lorry and collected bills from the merchants.
He was ridiculed by the merchants when collecting the accounts, so he became angry and started a business, and decided to only do cash business
.
He said: "Back then, when I was only in my 20s, all business at that time was billed, and I drove Rory to collect bills from merchants
.
"Once, when I asked a merchant for an account, I was mocked by a merchant, who said that I was only in my 20s, how long would I continue to ask people for help
.
"That day, when I got home, I kept thinking about what the other person said, which inspired me to start my own business and only do cash business
.
"Being in the business of collecting and recycling plastic waste because I can recycle it makes me feel like I'm doing a 'save the planet' job
.
"
