MainOne, a Nigerian communications services and network solutions company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ogun State Government to build 250km of fibre optic cables
in the state.
The partnership will strengthen the internet connectivity of service providers in the state's business districts with a view to becoming a smart city
.
Speaking at the signing of the MOU, Mr.
Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary of the Government of Ogun State, explained that technological infrastructure is an important part of the government's efforts to improve internet connectivity and pave the way
for smart city development in Ogun State.
According to Adeoluwa, MainOne will invest in the construction of broadband infrastructure in Ogun State, while the Ogun State Government will ensure the success of the project through a free "roadstrip" to promote the development of
information and communication technologies (ICT).
With the partnership with MainOne, Ogun State joins the Smart City State Train and is poised to launch it as Nigeria's leading technology hub, similar to MainOne's initiative
at the Yaba Innovation Centre.
Experts believe the project will greatly improve the quality of life for residents of the region and accelerate the digital transformation
of businesses across the state.
