Borealis has partnered with Menshen, a manufacturer of plastic closures and packaging systems, to develop ten packaging closures made with Borcycle recycling technology
.
Borcycle is a recycling technology that converts polyolefin waste into new value-added solutions for the production of a range of compounds made from recycled polyolefins (rPO) suitable for use in the laundry and home care industries ( including 2K closures) for rigid packaging applications
.
During the collaboration, Borealis and Manson discovered that Borcycle UG522MO, a polypropylene (PP) compound with a PCR content of 50%, would be a suitable solution for the new caps
.
Borealis claims the compound has many advantages, such as a 15% reduction in emissions compared to comparable packaging solutions made from virgin PP, and better recyclability in existing PCR recycling streams
.
"A core pillar of the Borealis EverMinds ethos is that value chain collaboration is essential to closing the loop for plastics," said Meta Cigon, Borealis Consumer Products Marketing Manager.
"Partnering with Manson
to provide high-quality closures made from 50% recycled PCR , proving that innovation and teamwork can bring the industry closer to a circular economy
,” he added
