Semiconductor developer MACOM Corporation (NASDAQ: MTSI) today announced the acquisition of some of the assets of Mindspeed Technologies (NASDAQ: MSPD), expanding its full line of 100G products from long-haul drivers to ICs for 100G optical transceivers

MACOM announced the acquisition of Mindspeed's simulation and other businesses for $272 million in cash on November 5, 2013, and announced the formal completion of the transaction
on December 18, 2013.
The acquisition strengthens MACOM's position in high-performance semiconductors (HPA) while giving the company access to a wider range of markets, including RF microwave and access network applications

MACOM's traditional strength lies in the III-V process, and Mindspeed's products include a variety of silicon-based technologies, especially silicon germanium
