Luxembourg Prime Minister Betheil said in a speech in parliament that Luxembourg plans to launch 5G pilot projects
by the end of this year.
Luxembourg's three existing mobile network operators, Post Luxembourg, Tango and Orange, have expressed interest in participating in the pilot project, which will take place
under the framework of Digital Luxembourg.
It is reported that Luxembourg plans to achieve 5G commercial services
in 2020.
In September 2018, Digital Luxembourg's ICT Infrastructure team developed a national 5G strategy, which was officially launched
by Bettel.
The strategy defines five potential 5G pilot areas as: Kirchberg, Belvar and the University of Luxembourg, the automotive park in Bisson, the CFL logistics center in Dudelange and the national transport network
.
According to Digital Luxembourg, the frequencies used for 5G are: 700MHz, 3.
4GHz-3.
8GHz and 26GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) spectrum
