On Thursday, sources revealed that LG Chem plans to build an electric vehicle battery factory in Poland to meet the growing demand
of European automakers.
The source said: "The factory will be completed
in a year and a half.
"The exact amount of investment has not been disclosed
.
Located in Polish, Wroclaw, Poland, the plant will eventually have a capacity of 229,000 car batteries per year, and will become LG Chem's second-largest automotive battery plant and the largest in China
.
LG Chem also manufactures batteries
in South Korea and the United States.
LG Chem will supply batteries for the GM Bolt, and 25 automakers around the world have become LG customers, including Renault, Volkswagen, Audi and Volvo
in Europe.
A spokesperson for LG Chem responded that the company is considering expanding battery production facilities, but no decision has been made
yet.
Samsung SDI is a competitor to LG Chem, BMW is its customer, Samsung SDI spokesperson confirmed that Samsung is also considering building a car battery factory
in Europe.
