LG Chem starts exporting bio-based phenol and acetone products

LG Chem will export 4,000 tons of phenol and 1,200 tons of acetone, for a total of 5,200 tons, which is the largest quantity of ISCC PLUS certified products that South Korea has ever export.

Phenol is the raw material for the initial process of polycarbonate, a high-performance engineering plastic used in the manufacture of auto parts, and resins produced from phenol are also partly used in components for electrical and electronic products and building materials such as insulato.

Acetone has good solubility and is mainly used in the production of solvents, such as cleaners and paint thinners, and is widely used throughout the industry as a raw material for artificial marble and other building materia.

Phenol and acetone from LG Chem's Daesan plant will be exported to Germany's leading renewable polymer producer's plants in China and Thailand, where biobalance chemicals are used to make polycarbonate, a highly functional plast.

Since LG Chem first started exporting biobalanced SAP (Super Absorbent Polymer) in August last year, the company has launched 41 ISCC PLUS certified products, including polyolefins, ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) , PVC (polyvinyl chloride), NPG (neopentyl glycol), phenol, acetone, e.

LG Chem expects that its ISCC PLUS-certified eco-friendly products business will continue to expand in global markets, including Europe and the United States, amid growing demand and demands from customers who want to produce bio-balanced products to lead global ESG tren.
