Leander Basel announces net zero emissions target by 2050

On September 29, LyondellBasell announced that the company is committed to achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 and announced the way to achieve this goal

Leander Basel will use appropriate methods to achieve the goal of zero net emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 by 2050 based on the progress made in the past ten years

In addition, the company is also actively incorporating emission reduction measures into certain business processes, including long-term planning and risk management, and identifying collaboration opportunities across multiple departments to accelerate the promotion and deployment of breakthrough technologies

Launch of a global renewable energy strategy: The company is currently seeking various opportunities to use green power from wind and solar energy through corporate power purchase agreements in the United States and Europe

Develop a roadmap to phase out coal-fired power generation at the Wesseling production plant in Germany by 2023: The company has signed an agreement with the German specialty chemicals company Evonik to purchase high-pressure steam generated from natural gas for use by the Wesseling olefin and polyolefin production plants

Evaluation of combustion tower systems: In 2020, the company expanded its comprehensive evaluation of the combustion tower systems of its major plants to cover its various technologies

Supporting public policies aimed at achieving global emission reductions: Sound public policies can play an important role in achieving large-scale global emission reductions.
