A landmark pilot project to deliver liquefied hydrogen from Australia has proven that new seaborne trade is technically feasible, officials from Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) said yesterday
.
Earlier this year, the Suiso Frontier, the world's first liquefied hydrogen carrier built by KHI, carried a shipment of hydrogen extracted from Australian lignite to Japan, arriving in Kobe late last month
.
Motohiko Nishimura, executive officer of KHI, told reporters: "The demonstration from production, transportation to loading and storage proved that the technical foundation has been laid for the future use of hydrogen as an energy source like LNG
.
"
"Equipment and facilities that can operate safely are also a game-changing technology for the clean energy industry," Nishimura said
KHI said it aims to build a larger hydrogen container soon
