UK-based JDR Cable, part of TFKable Group, has won a multi-million pound contract to supply in-house array cables and terminal services
for Ørsted's offshore wind farm, Hornsea Project Two.
JDR cables will supply internal array cables for the world's largest wind farms
The contract includes 100 km of internal array cables, all of which will be assembled
at JDR's Hartlepool facility.
Internal array cables connect the turbines together and transmit the clean electricity generated by the turbines to the offshore substation, which converts it to a higher voltage for transmission to shore
.
JDR Cable noted that the project is Ørsted's first use of 66 kV array cables in the UK, compared to the 33 kV cables
used in previous projects.
Patrick Harnett, Director of Engineering, Procurement and Construction at Hornsea Project Two Offshore Wind Farm, said: "This contract builds on experience from previous projects, including our Race Bank offshore wind farm opened earlier this year and Hornsea Project One
, which is currently under construction.
As our wind farm projects continue to grow in size and distance from the coast, we have more and more
contracts in the supply chain.
As we innovate, the technology we use is constantly changing to build these projects
to drastically reduce the cost of electricity on the UK grid.
We are proud to have signed this contract with a UK-based company and look forward to continuing our partnership
with JDR Cable.
" ”
Richard Turner, chief executive of JDR Cable, said: "Hornsea Project Two is a 1.
4 GW offshore wind project that will be built at the lowest price ever built
in the UK.
This incredible achievement has been the result of a concerted effort by organizations from all walks of life to drive technological innovation in offshore wind projects, making them more economical than ever before, and opening the way
for future development.
”
Operationalized in 2022, the wind farm will provide clean electricity to more than 1.
3 million homes and surpass its sister project, Hornsea One, to become the world's largest offshore wind farm
