On September 27, Japan's Togas-General Petroleum Company and major construction company Nichiwa announced that the two companies will build a biomass power plant
with coconut shells as the main fuel in Muroran City, Hokkaido.
With a power generation capacity of 74,900 kilowatts, it is the largest wood-only biomass power plant
in Japan.
With an investment of JPY 25 billion to JPY 30 billion, the plant is expected to start operations
by spring 2020.
On October 11 of this year, the two companies established the Muroran Biomass Power Generation Joint Company
, which has a capital of 100 million yen.
Among them, Dongran invested 90% and Nichiwa invested 10%.
The biomass power plant is expected to be built on 40,000 square meters of idle land in the oil pond of Dongrang, and the company aims to start construction
by August 2017.
The power station generates electricity
by burning coconut shells that have been squeezed from the fruit to produce steam.
Coconut shells are imported
from Southeast Asia.
According to Dongran, the electricity generated by the power station will be sold
through a fixed-price renewable energy purchase system.
