Recently, Japan’s largest oil company, Eneos, announced that it will cooperate with Malaysia’s Petronas to establish a green hydrogen supply chain to control carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions
.
The content of the cooperation between the two parties is to convert the hydrogen produced in Malaysia into MCH (methylcyclohexane), which is highly transportable, and then transport it to the Eneos refinery in Japan
To this end, Eneos signed a memorandum of understanding with PGNESB, a subsidiary of Petronas
.
The two companies will start producing hydrogen, manufacturing and transporting MCH in Malaysia
The project plans to use unused by-product hydrogen in the Petrochemical Plant of Petronas, which has an annual production capacity of tens of thousands of tons of by-product hydrogen
.
Eneos said that the project is expected to obtain a stable and competitive source of hydrogen supply, so it has high commercial feasibility
