The Italian government has approved the launch of a fund worth 400 million euros to provide fiber optic connections
to schools across the country.
According to a report by MondoMobileWeb, Italy's Ministry of Economic Development hopes to equip 32,000 buildings (more than 81% of schools) with fiber access in the next two years to guarantee 100Mbps download speeds and up to 1Gbps Internet speeds
.
Eligible low-income families will also receive vouchers worth up to €500 to install a broadband connection and purchase IT equipment
for children.
The first activation on the new school network is expected to begin
in September of this year.
