DSM sells its protective materials business for more than €1.
4 billion
On April 20, DSM announced the sale of its protective materials business to Avient for 1.
44 billion euros (about 10.
1 billion yuan), a transaction that is expected to close
in the second half of this year.
The proposed deal includes all of DSM's protective materials businesses, the most important of which is Dyneema, an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, a special fiber 15 times stronger than steel used in demanding applications
such as ballistic protection, marine and sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy, industrial protection and outdoor sports.
DSM's protective materials business generated sales of €335 million and EBITDA of €105 million in 2021, including six production facilities, four R&D centers and around 1,000 employees
worldwide.
Excluding transaction costs and taxes, DSM expects to receive €1.
33 billion in cash
.
DSM announced in September 2021 that it would explore the sale of its materials business as part of
the company's plan to focus on health, nutrition and biosciences.
