Air Liquide and Covestro sign hydrogen supply agreement
Recently, Air Liquide signed a long-term contract
with Covestro.
Air Liquide will invest EUR 80 million in its know-how to build the next-generation steam methane reformer SMR-X to supply hydrogen
to the Covestro site in the port area of Antwerp, Belgium.
The hydrogen produced by the plant will be used by Covestro to produce aniline or supplied to customers
in the industrial area of Antwerp.
The reformer is expected to start operations
in 2020.
Covestro will recover part of the CO2 produced during production and use it as a raw material
.
Air Liquide says the new generation of plants improves energy efficiency and reduces carbon emissions, reducing overall natural gas consumption and CO2 emissions from producing hydrogen by about 5 percent
compared to conventional steam methane reformers.
