According to the official letter, the construction period of the center is two years, and the main task is to carry out technical research according to the needs of the Ministry of Environmental Protection for mercury pollution prevention and control and international implementation, provide technical support for the prevention and control of mercury pollution of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and become a public welfare pollution control technology research institution

The center will make every effort to build five functional platforms
, including implementation and policy standard research, technology research and development, engineering and achievement transformation, basic environmental problem research, international exchange and talent training.
