Mitsui Chemicals will discontinue PTA production in Japan

Mitsui Chemical recently announced that it plans to close its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant in
Iwakuni Daitake, Japan, in August 2023.
The plant has a production capacity of 400,000 tons/year
.
Although Mitsui Chemicals Group will no longer produce PTA in Japan, it will maintain its existing domestic market sales structure shares by selling PTAs imported from GC-M PTA Co.
, Ltd.
, a Thai joint venture in which Mitsui Chemicals holds a 26% stake, with PTT Global Chemical Group holding the remaining 74%.

In the new VISION 2030 long-term management plan, Mitsui Chemicals positions PTA as one of the restructuring businesses of
the Basic and Green Materials business units.
The Basic and Green Materials business segment will lead the Group's circular economy revolution, accelerate the reduction of profit fluctuations by increasing investment in high-performance products and restructuring existing businesses, and lay the business foundation
for stable profitability.
