The EU proposes to add five new substances of very high concern to be authorized
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has proposed to the European Commission to add five new substances of very high concern (SVHC) as authorized substances
.
Four of these substances are classified as carcinogenic, reproductive toxic or respiratory sensitizing, and the fifth is due to its degradation to produce a substance
with endocrine-disrupting properties.
This is the fifth time that the European Chemicals Agency has recommended substances
of very high concern from the Candidate List for authorization.
The five substances of very high concern are N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) (reproductive toxicity), azodiacarboxamide (respiratory sensitization), aluminum silicate refractory ceramic fiber (carcinogenic), zirconia aluminum silicate refractory ceramic fiber (carcinogenic) and p-teroctyl phenol ethoxy ether (degradants with endocrine-disrupting properties).
The final decision on the listing of the five substances in Annex XIV of the REACH regulation, as well as the specific date by which companies need to apply for authorization from the European Chemicals Agency, will be determined
by the European Commission in conjunction with the EU Member States and the European Parliament.
