Continental Tire Americas (Continental) has reached an agreement with the U.
S.
state of Mississippi to purchase a site for a new commercial vehicle tire factory to drive the future growth
of its tire business in the North American market.
The plant is located in a development area
in Haylands County, Mississippi.
Continental began site leveling in 2016 and expects to start construction
of a tire plant in 2018.
The company's proposed plant spans nearly 1,000 acres and is sized and located to build a growing tire factory
.
Although the start date has not yet been announced, the company expects to break ground in the coming months
, depending on market demand.
Continental has pledged to invest a total of about $1.
4 billion locally and employ 2,500 people
when the plant reaches full capacity over the next decade.
The company plans to start producing tires for commercial vehicles by the end of 2019
.
In addition to the United States, Continental Tire has recently expanded production capacity in Russia, China and Europe to better meet global demand
in the long term.
