BASF Engineering Plastics optimizes new PV module installation system
BASF has developed a modular system for the installation of solar modules on flat roofs together with German plastics processors Ensinger and Goldbeck Solar, in which load-bearing components are manufactured
for the first time in BASF's Ultramid engineering plastics.
Ultramid plastics not only maintain extremely low creep at high temperatures (up to 80°C), but also have excellent toughness and rigidity
at low temperatures of -30°C.
At the same time, thanks to the high proportion of glass fiber reinforcement, Ultramid plastic also has excellent UV resistance and weather resistance, passed the ISO 4892-2 Cycle No.
1 battery test, and has an outdoor life of up to 20 years
.
In addition, BASF's unique computer simulation tool, Ultrasim?, optimizes components to further reduce their weight
while meeting the specific requirements of photovoltaic applications.
The new support components made of this polymer will not puncture or damage the roof layer during installation, and can maintain the waterproof performance
of the roof without additional sealing measures.
Ensinger also makes full use of the advantages of Ultramid engineering plastics in the injection molding process, integrating a wide range of functions into
the plastic structure.
In a single manufacturing process, Ensinger uses snaps, frames and baffles to drain and route the components, making the components lightweight and easy to install
.
The solar module mounting system contains a very small number of components – two identical plastic bases held together by metal rails, and a plastic bracket is attached vertically to the
rear base by snaps and screws.
In this way, the front base and the plastic bracket form a contact surface for the photovoltaic module, providing the ideal angle
for the incidence of sunlight.
The dual function of the base not only simplifies installation, reduces fixed costs, but also reduces logistical requirements
.
Thanks to this new installation system, Goldbeck Solar will be able to offer its customers cost-effective solar installations
