BASF Automotive Coatings and Thermal have recently brought new corrosion protection solutions
to the automotive market.
The solution combines Thervents' zinc thermal diffusion (ZTD) process with BASF's Cathoguard electrodeposition (electrophoresis) process to provide advanced corrosion protection for structural metal parts and improve the physical properties
of automotive underbody and structural component metals.
This process injects zinc metal into the surface of the metal substrate to form an elastic zinc-metal bond, which not only improves the corrosion resistance of the metal, but also plays a role in
enhancing the physical properties of the metal.
"This new solution is a game-changing technology that provides 15 years of corrosion protection, exceeding the 10-year protection period of existing standard electrophoresis technologies, and we can now offer customers in North America advanced solutions
for longer-lasting corrosion resistance," said Sean McKeon, Vice President Coating Solutions at BASF.
