Shell has completed a $53 billion acquisition of British Gas Group (BG), making it the world's largest natural gas producer
, surpassing ExxonMobil in size.
Shell announced its plan to acquire BG in April 2015, and the entire acquisition process is expected to be completed
in the next 2~3 years.
Bernstein Research estimates that Shell's LNG capacity will more than double by 2020, further expanding its global leadership
in LNG production.
Shell estimates that, together with BG supply, Shell will supply about
30% of China's total natural gas imports to China in 2017.
By then, Shell will also produce 4.
7 million barrels
of oil and gas.
Shell CEO Van Bolden said that after the acquisition, the new company will be more attractive to shareholders and more resilient to pressure in times of oil price fluctuations
.
The acquisition of BG will not only strengthen Shell's presence in the market, but also establish the company as Brazil's largest foreign oil company
.
