The EPA imposes import restrictions on nine chemicals
Recently, the U.
S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a final rule to impose new import restrictions
on nine chemicals that require new chemical pre-production notifications (PMNs).
These 9 chemicals are commonly used in asphalt, industrial cleaning, lighting phosphors, epoxy adhesives, cellulose fabrics, ultraviolet release coatings, special polymers and waste treatment, including: (1) tall oil fatty acids and modified fatty acids and polyol amine reactants; (2) amino acids, carboxyalkyl groups, aryl sulfonates, alkali salts; (3) mixed metal borate; (4) benzamide, N-[(cyclohexyl)thiomethyl]; (5) Aromatic sulfonic acid aminoazo dye salts; (6) Iodium, biphenyl-4,4'-bis-C10-13-alkyl derivative, (OC-6-11)-hexafluoroantimonate; (7) Alkyl maleimide substituted dicyclic olefin; (8) Automotive coating wastewater treatment mucus, slurry, solid waste
.
Under the new rules, those who intend to import, manufacture, or handle these substances must notify EPA at least 90 days before the start of the event, allowing the EPA to assess the intended use of these substances and prohibit or restrict the start
of the event if necessary.
The rule came into effect
on January 19, 2013.
