The American Chemistry Council (ACC) recently testified to the House Energy and Commerce Committee on both environmental and economic aspects to encourage Congress to update the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
The hearing considered the Senate's introduction of the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA) bill, which would improve TSCA's renewal mechanism
.
ACC argues that the CSIA should highlight long-standing concerns about chemicals management, including the first systematic assessment of chemicals not subject to the new legal provisions, EPA's priority in chemical evaluation, giving EPA more authority to require chemical manufacturers to conduct further testing and obtain additional data, and requiring EPA to provide more information to the public
.
