Honeywell UOP membrane solutions power Petrobras offshore gas processing
Honeywell UOP today announced that Petrobras has adopted its SeparexTM membrane solution for offshore gas processing
.
SeparexTM membrane solutions remove CO2 and water from natural gas to meet the quality requirements of natural gas pipeline gathering and end-users, with a natural gas processing capacity of up to 6 million cubic meters per day
per SeparexTM membrane filtration system.
SeparexTM membranes are small in thickness but have a long service life
in natural gas applications.
In addition, SeparexTM membranes do not require the use of solvents and there is no risk of
damaging the marine ecosystem due to solvent leakage.
Petrobras' SeparexTM membrane solution will be installed on eight of its floating production storage vessels (FPSOs) for operation
in Brazil's Lula field.
In addition, two other SeparexTM filtration units have been installed on two floating production storage vessels operated by third-party owners and operated
in the Tupi and Guaro fields in Brazil.
Honeywell's portfolio of UOP natural gas processing technologies continues to advance, with its Twister natural gas supersonic technology for the removal of water and heavy hydrocarbons
from natural gas.
Rebecca Liebert, vice president and general manager of Honeywell UOP's gas processing and hydrogen units business, said: "Petrobras' continued investment in UOP's membrane filtration gas treatment system further strengthens its partnership
with UOP.
The company's SeparexTM technology enables efficient hydrocarbon recovery without the use of other chemical solvents, reducing the operating costs of
natural gas treatment.
