Today's car enthusiasts are increasingly demanding decorative
elements for automotive parts.
Therefore, the most ideal automotive decorative coatings need to combine
decorative with anti-corrosion and wear protection.
Researchers at the Leibniz Institute for Advanced Materials (INM) have developed new coatings for automotive components that make this possible
.
INM uses special silicates for this coating
.
This special silicate is converted into a sol-gel nanocomposite
by a single-step reaction.
This means that it can be sealed at a high temperature of 200~800 °C, but the specific temperature still depends on the color pigment and matrix
.
This new technology produces decorative coatings
such as red, black, green, white, and blue with high temperature stability, depending on the color pigment selected.
These functional coatings are suitable for metal substrates such as steel, aluminum, alloys, or as protective layers
for glass components.
