Germany has nominated three new categories of SVHCs
A few days ago, Germany notified the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) that it intends to add three new classes of substances to the candidate list
of substances of very high concern (SVHC) under the REACH regulation.
The three classes are: 1,4-phenylenediamine and its phenyl and xylene derivatives (BENPATAX); 1,4-Phenylenediamine and its phenyl and toluene derivatives (BENPAT); 1,4-Phenylenediamine and its toluene and xylene derivatives (BENTAX).
To date, there are nine SVHC nomination files in Germany, which are expected to be submitted on January 28, 2013
.
The remaining 6 substances are: ammonium perfluorooctanoate, amyl phthalate, cadmium sulfide, cadmium, cadmium oxide and perfluorooctanoic acid
.
The three newly nominated substances are unknown, complex reaction products or biological material substances (UVCBs) that are commonly used as lubricants or additives
in rubber products.
Germany believes that these three groups of substances should be classified as sustainable, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT) substances
.
