The RoHS 2.
0 Directive adds a lead exemption
The European Commission has signed an amendment to RoHS 2.
0, adding a new clause 7(c) IV under the lead exemption clause of Annex III to Directive 2011/65/EU
.
The European Commission said that although the RoHS directive requires that electronic and electrical products sold on the market must not use heavy metal lead (content < 1000ppm), it decided to exempt<b12> lead in PZT considering that lead in dielectric ceramic materials based on lead zirconate titanate (PZT) or alternatives to lead in semiconductor capacitors are currently technically difficult to achieve.
The revised Directive will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union and will enter into force 20 days after the date of the Gazette, with the exemption period tentatively set to expire
on 21 July 2016.
