Bayer establishes a polymer development center in Korea
Bayer MaterialScience, a leading global materials supplier, has established its first polymer development center
in South Korea.
Located in Yongin, near Seoul, South Korea, the center will focus on developing new polycarbonate (PC) applications
in high-tech products for Korean companies, especially those in the automotive and IT industries.
Initially, the Polymer Development Center will provide technical advice
to Korean customers on the use of polycarbonate in high-tech applications such as smartphones, laptops and TVs in industries such as automotive and IT.
From the third quarter of 2013, the center will also develop new product application concepts
through cooperation with Korean companies, sample production and testing.
Koenig, member of the Executive Board of Bayer MaterialScience and Global Head of the Polycarbonates Business Unit, said: "Over the past 10 years, Korea has become a hub for
cutting-edge high-tech products.
Many large Korean companies use their high technology to serve customers on a global scale, but R&D activities are mainly carried out
in Korea.
The establishment of the polymer development center will help bring the company closer to these Korean companies, strengthen their long-term relationship in research and development, and enable the company to further improve its work efficiency and meet its needs
.
"
The Asia-Pacific region accounts for 60%
of the global demand for polycarbonate.
The establishment of the center reaffirms Bayer's ongoing commitment
to strengthening its business network in the Asia-Pacific region.
Bayer's Asia-Pacific production sites in Shanghai, China, Mata Province in Thailand and Niihama in Japan already have a strong production network
.
The establishment of the polymer development center will further expand
Bayer's global R&D network and production sites in Asia Pacific.
