The United States will limit carbon emissions from new power plants
U.
S.
President Barack Obama recently proposed limiting carbon dioxide emissions
from the country's new power plants.
The recommendation is specific to new power plants, requiring new gas-fired power plants to emit no more than 1,000 pounds (450 kilograms) of CO2 per megawatt-hour of electricity generated, and new coal-fired power plants to emit no more than 1,100 pounds
of carbon dioxide per megawatt-hour.
Currently, U.
S.
coal-fired power plants emit about 1,800 pounds
of carbon dioxide per megawatt-hour of electricity generated.
The plan will have a 60-day comment period, and the government hopes it will be implemented
by autumn 2014.
