    The new succinic acid separation and purification process has high efficiency

    Recently, the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has developed a succinic acid separation and purification process
    with industrial prospects.
    The process is based on the idea of coupling fermentation and separation processes, with ultrafiltration as the first single unit operation
    for succinic acid separation.
    The removal rate of bacteria in this ultrafiltration process reaches 100%, and the removal rate of protein reaches more than
    93%.

    According to reports, succinic acid is an important platform compound, which is widely used in food, drugs, cosmetics, and synthetic biodegradable polymer polybutylene succinate (PBS).

    However, the many separation and purification steps and high cost have seriously limited the industrialization
    of bio-based succinic acid.
    Therefore, the development of efficient separation and purification methods is the key to the industrialization of
    bio-based succinic acid.
